Yes, civil liability insurance is mandatory in the Republic of Bulgaria. Every vehicle must have a valid policy, regardless of whether it is used permanently, seasonally, or periodically. The obligation for civil liability insurance does not apply in cases where the vehicle has been deregistered or taken off the road and has been removed from the Traffic Police records.
Civil liability insurance is intended for individuals and legal entities and covers their liability for accidents that cause harm to other people and/or their property – bodily injury, death, or property damage.
The insurance is valid for one year, and payments can be made in 1, 2, or 4 installments.
The price of the insurance is determined according to:
- the ownership - whether the vehicle is registered to a natural or legal person;
- the type of motor vehicle (cubic centimeters);
- the territory in which the vehicle will be driven;
- the age of the driver.
To take out your insurance, all you need is your vehicle registration certificate.
